Italian restaurants make up 1330 of the total of 14,017 London restaurants listed by Trip Advisor, far larger than Indian, Chinese or even European cuisine. Britain is obsessed with Italian cuisine at all levels. The Prezzo chain recently posted profits of £17.3m, Carluccio's has a 15% profits boost and 10 new openings and pizza/pasta with its relatively low production costs seems to have survived the recession better than most. Supermarket Tesco reports a boom in all things Italian with pizza selling far better than curry and growth in sales of antipasti, olives, tiramusu and Pinot Grigio.
